3rd times a charm hopefully

/shannonigansToday I had my third set of intercostal blocks in my back for the rib pain.  As you know, I have a broken rib that is taking forever to heal due to the fact that I can’t take a break from breathing, coughing or sneezing to give it time to heal.  The pain is better than when it first began back in February, 5 and a half months ago so for that I’m glad but there is still a little bit to go to be pain free.  Yes, I hope to be pain free.  Yes, I’m asking for a lot. Yes, I’m stubborn. hahaha.  I have a follow up appointment with the pain clinic August 10th to talk about this set injections hoping to be done with the pain clinic.

Now on to other news….I took a trip “home” to Kansas City to see family.  I put home in quotes because Tennessee is home for us now.  We plan on staying here when my husband retires from the Air Force.  Home is where my family is and that is both Kansas City, KS/MO and Knoxville, TN.  We love it here in TN.

The trip home was good on many aspects for the people I was able to see and not so good for the nasty cold I caught.  I think I am finally over the worst of the cold except for the nasty stuff that is still coming from my sinuses.  It did move to my chest but not too bad.  The pseudofed and ibuprofen cocktail helped keep it at bay and out of my lungs for the most part.  It just made for miserable moments where my head felt like it was going to explode with a slight fever.  It was great seeing everyone none the less.  One perk is that my uncle made us a desk/table for our office that fits perfect in our little alcove in the office.  I love that I have something handmade by him.  He is very talented and it is something that will stay in the family forever!  We love it!!!  I was able to bring it back with me on my solo 11 hour drive back.

We have been having some bad air quality days which means bad breathing days for me.  That means “stay inside” days which I hate.  Summer is my favorite season so I hate when I can’t be outside enjoying it.  Oxygen has been my friend at times again.  My oxygen sats had been doing really well and I hadn’t needed much if any oxygen.  That is not the case now.  Such is life with CF.  Good days/times and bad days/times.  It’s like a really “fun” roller coaster with lots of ups and downs but you can’t see the track in front of you, so you don’t know what is ahead.  You have to go with the flow and that is not always easy.

I have an appointment with CF clinic August 25th.  My goal is always to make it to a follow up appointment without having to call the doc to wave the white flag of defeat needing antibiotics.
