I got home around noon today from the hospital which is record time for a release. It helped that I didn’t have to wait for my IV antibiotics to be delivered to me at the hospital. They delivered them to the house which is nice. Let me recap the stay for ya… Continue reading

IVs it is
When I was at CF clinic on the 2nd, I asked for oral antibiotics hoping I wouldn’t need IVs. Sometimes (not too often anymore) I can get by with orals instead of going straight to IVs. With my line of drugs that don’t work I’m limited. Well I had to call them back because my cough and wheeze were still hanging around. I asked only for a short burst of prednisone hoping it would help. You guessed it, I had to throw in the towel and ask for IVs because my cough was persistent and the amount I’m coughing up has increased. I went for lung functions and they were down a little (FEV1 34%/.98L). When compared to my last set of lung functions they are down 4%. Continue reading
Update and depression talk
I guess I should update you all since my stay in “lock up” (aka the hospital). My creatinine (kidney level) is finally back down in normal range. It was .91 when I last had my blood drawn at CF clinic last Thursday. Yay for that. Even more yay, I can start to take ibuprofen, in moderation, for my aches and pains since Tylenol does nothing for me. Continue reading
The Last 6 Days…
This is what the last 6 days have looked like to me…
Thursday, August 3rd: My nurse called and said my kidney level (creatinine) was up today when I had my bi-weekly labs drawn. So I’m at the ER getting checked in then getting admitted. The plan is to get me hooked up to fluid to help flush out my kidneys. It’s not as high as it was the last time I was admitted for acute kidney failure which is good that we caught it. The reason my kidney level is high is from the antibiotics that are filtered through my kidneys. Sometimes the kidneys take a hit. I’ll keep you all updated. Continue reading
Oscar and Oscar II have arrived
Today was an early start. I had to be at the hospital for labs early because we ha plans to go to Dollywood the amusement park and wanted to be there when it opened at 10am. So I made to the hospital for labs, stopped for gas on the way back and made it back home by 8:05 am. We made it to Dollywood around 10:15 am, they opened at 10am. Our tradition in our family is that we have a family day and/or night before one of us goes away for an extended period of time. My step-son is heading to his mom’s for the summer so that meant a family day was in store. What I learned today was 1.) handicapped parking when at an amusement park is a life saver 2.) you don’t realize how much lung power you use while riding roller coasters until you are out of breath while riding one 3.) long lines for rides give you time to calm your breathing and regain control of it 4.) your inner thighs get sore from “holding on” and finally 5.) I was right when I said that I could see a lot of coughing from laughter in my day. We sealed family day by playing a game of Sequence after dinner. Continue reading
Thankful
I received most of my lab results and they are looking good still. Thursday my creatinine was 0.86 still good. My BUN (blood urea nitrogen…a test to see how well your kidneys are working) was 16. Normal range is 10-20. Monday the 21st my BUN was 15, so it has been behaving. Continue reading
Stubborn kidneys
Another day in the books… I am still nauseous and my eyes feel like they can’t focus at times. I have pretty much no appetite and nothing sounds good at all but I keep snacking to keep my calories somewhat up. My calorie intake is defiantly not where it needs to be but some is better than none. My creatinine has been on a roller coaster. So here are the numbers. Monday it was 5.3, yesterday in the ER before fluids it was 5.99, last night after a bag of fluid and half a bag of fluid with sodium bicarb it was 5.6 and this morning it was 5.8. As I said before the normal range is .5 – 1.1. Continue reading
